8 Jenis Kecerdasan Anak dan Cara Mengembangkannya

Tidak ada anak yang bodoh. Setiap anak memiliki kepintarannya masing-masing. Seorang pakar pendidikan dari Universitas Harvard, Amerika Serikat, Thomas Armstrong mengungkapkan, ada delapan jenis kecerdasan anak menurut teori Multiple Intelligences atau kecerdasan multipel.

Teori ini pertama kali diperkenalkan oleh pakar pendidikan yang juga dari Universitas Havard, Howard Gardner.

Howard membaginya menjadi delapan jenis kecerdasan anak, yaitu word smart (kecerdasan linguistik), number smart (kecerdasan logika atau matematis), self smart (kecerdasan intrapersonal), people smart (kecerdasan interpersonal), musik smart (kecerdasan musikal), picture smart (kecerdasan spasial), body smart (kecerdasan kinetik), dan nature smart (kecerdasan naturalis).

Thomas menjelaskan, setiap anak barangkali bisa memiliki delapan jenis kecerdasan ini. Hanya saja, ada anak yang hanya menonjol pada satu atau lebih jenis kecerdasan tersebut. Untuk itu, menurut Thomas, orangtua seharusnya mengenali jenis kecerdasan anak, kemudian membantu mengasah kecerdasannya. “Dukunglah anak sesuai jenis kecerdasannya. Adanya minat, bisa membangun kompetensi anak kemudian hari,” kata Thomas dalam talkshow bertajuk Beda Anak Beda Pintar oleh S-26 Procal Gold Wyeth Nutrition di Jakarta, Kamis (1/10/2015).

Thomas menegaskan, orangtua tidak bisa memaksa bakat yang dimiliki anak. Anak seharusnya didukung sesuai minatnya. Seperti apa 8 tipe kecerdasan anak ini? Berikut penjelasannya dan cara mengembangkannya.

1. Word smart (kecerdasan linguistik) Jenis kecerdasan ini berkaitan dengan kemampuan anak dalam berbahasa baik dalam bentuk tulisan maupun saat berbicara. Kecerdasan linguistik dapat dilihat ketika anak suka membaca, cepat bisa mengeja kata dengan baik, suka menulis, suka berbicara, dan mendengarkan cerita. Jika anak menunjukkan kesukaannya seperti ini, orangtua bisa memberikan buku-buku cerita, mainan huruf alphabet, kertas untuk menulis, atau mainan yang berkaitan dengan huruf dan kata-kata lainnya yang bisa menstimulasi kecerdasannya ini. Orangtua juga bisa mendukung anak dengan sering mengajaknya bercerita, membaca bersama, membacakan dongeng, dan melakukan dialog berdua dengan anak.

2. Number smart (kecerdasan logika atau matematis) Jenis kecerdasan ini bisa ditandai ketika anak tertarik dengan angka-angka, menyukai matematika, dan hal-hal yang berbau sains, maupun yang berhubungan dengan logika. Untuk mengasah kemampuannya ini, berikan anak-anak alat berhitung yang menarik, benda-benda untuk dihitung, balok bertulisan angka-angka, puzzle, hingga timbangan untuk mengukur berat. Orangtua bisa mengajak anak mengunjungi museum ilmu pengetahuan, mengajak anak bermain sambil menghitung, atau bermain monopoli.

3. Self smart (kecerdasan intrapersonal) Anak dengan tipe kecerdasan ini cenderung lebih suka bermain sendiri. Namun, ia bisa mengatur emosi dengan baik. Anak ini biasanya memiliki ambisi dan sudah tahu ingin jadi apa saat besar nanti. Ia juga memiliki rasa percaya diri yang tinggi dan bisa mengomunikasikan perasaannya dengan baik. Jika si kecil menunjukkan tanda kecerdasan ini, berikan ia dukungan dengan menyediakan tempat yang nyaman untuk bermain sendiri, boneka, atau mainan untuk main peragaan. Orangtua bisa mengajak si kecil berbicara mengenai perasaannya dan menanyakan pendapat mereka tentang berbagai hal. Bisa juga dengan mengajak mereka melakukan aktivitas yang bersifat reflektif seperti yoga.

4. People smart (kecerdasan interpersonal) Berbanding terbalik dengan self smart, anak yang memiliki tipe kecerdasan ini lebih suka bermain dengan banyak orang. Anak juga memiliki empati, mampu memahami perasaan orang lain, dan cenderng menonjol sehingga suka memimpin saat bermain. Anak seperti ini sangat cocok diberikan kostum-kostum untuk bermain drama atau teater boneka. Orangtua bisa mengajak mereka bermain bersama di luar rumah atau sering mengajak si kecil datang ke acara keluarga untuk bersosialisasi.

5. Music smart (kecerdasan musikal) Kecerdasan musikal barangkali salah satu tipe kecerdasan yang paling mudah dilihat oleh orangtua. Ciri-ciri anak yang memiliki kecerdasan ini, antara lain suka bernyanyi, menggoyangkan badan atau berjoget ketika mendengar suara musik, suka mendengarkan musik, mengingat lagu, suka memukul-mukul seperti bermain drum, dan main piano. Untuk mendukung minat anak di bidang musik, berikanlah ia alat musik seperti drum kecil, keyboard, piano, pianika, dan berbagai alat musik lainnya. Ajaklah si kecil bermain musik bersama, bernyanyi, mendengarkan musik, bahkan mengajaknya menonton konser musik anak-anak.

6. Pictue smart (kecerdasan spasial) Anak yang memiliki kecerdasan ini biasanya terlihat dari kesukaannya menggambar, mencorat-coret kertas, mewarnai, suka berimajinasi, hingga suka bermain-main membangun sesuatu menggunaan balok. Untuk anak ini, berikanlah buku gambar, perlengkapan untuk mewarnai seperti kuas dan cat air, dan kamera. Seringlah melakukan kegiatan menggambar bersama hingga mengunjungi museum seni.

7. Body Smart (kecerdasan kinetik) Anak yang memiliki kecerdasan body smart sangat aktif, seperti suka berolahraga, menari, menyentuh berbagai benda dan mempelajarinya, atau membuat sesuatu dengan tangannya. Untuk mendukung kecerdasannya, berikan anak mainan balok-balok kayu, kantong pasir agar ia bisa membuat suatu bangunan atau rumah-rumahan. Bisa juga memberikan anak tali untuk bermain lompat tali. Anak seperti ini sangat senang diajak berolahtaga bersama keluarga, membuat prakarya, atau memonton pertunjukkan balet atau teater.

8. Nature smart (kecerdasan naturalis) Anak-anak yang memiliki kecerdasan naturalis sangat suka bermain di alam. Anak ini juga menyukai binatang, memiliki kepedulian terhadap lingkungan, suka dengan tanaman.
